Furthermore, it is not just a goal as Norway is making great progress as well. About 40% of the cars that were sold in Norway back in 2016 were either electric or hybrid. China China did announce back in 2017 that it wanted to ban gasoline and diesel-engine cars back in 2017. However, it has not yet committed itself to a particular date. Taiwan The country has plans of ceasing the sales of all new diesel and gasoline engine motorcycles by 2035 and will be doing the same with four-wheeled vehicles by 2040. As per road traffic-technology, ‘In 2018, the government stressed that the ban would not affect existing fossil fuel-powered vehicles, with it only enforced for new cars and motorcycles. It is estimated that motorcycles and scooters comprise two-thirds of the country’s registered vehicles, which stands at more than 20 million. Brussels in Belgium Although Belgium, as a nation, has yet to commit to banning of diesel-engine cars, some cities in Belgium are already taking steps in this particular direction. For instance. Brussels has announced that it wishes to ban all of the diesel cars by 2030. Japan The last country on our list is Japan. It is working in collaboration with manufacturers such as Honda, Nissan, and Toyota to make sure that all new cars are either hybrid or electric by 2050. This working group has been named METI and is also aiming at causing a reduction in passenger vehicle greenhouse gas emission by 90% of 2010 levels this year.
