If you’re like most auto owners, summer puts you in the car more than any other season because of traveling and vacations.
After putting large additional miles on your car throughout the summer, it is important to take some proactive steps to keep your car in the best condition to avoid car repairs.
6 Summer Car Care Tips
1. Battery
Summer is an easy time for the battery, but this can be strained by cold weather.
First, look for corrosion on the battery terminals. This needs to be repaired or cleaned to eliminate resistance between the battery and the rest of the electrical system, such as the starter and blower.
Then, test the battery—replace it if it’s too weak for a cold start.
2. Tires
Don’t think about winter tires, but check whether your summer or all-season tires already have at least 4/32 inches of tread depth remaining.
Look for abnormal tread wear, which may indicate a suspension problem or alignment.
Cold weather causes a drop in tire pressure.
So, inflate the psi tires indicated either by the owner’s manual or by the tire and load label on the driver’s door jamb.
3. Lights
You Need lights to see and be seen snow, especially when rain and fog reduce visibility.
Check that all lights are functional, including marker lights, turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights, taillights, reverse lights, headlights, and fog lights.
If not mounted, it may be a smart idea to consider adding aftermarket fog lamps.
4. Wipers
A better recommendation is to replace wiper blades every six months, but they may be worn sooner.

Now is a good time to replace any wiper blades that streak, don’t clear or, chatter the windshield properly.
Don’t forget to store the winter washer fluid, too.
5. Air Conditioning
The air conditioning system is crucial for the defogging of your windshield and front windows.
Functional or not, have its performance checked by a repair shop to ensure a year-long operation.

Check and adjust all fluid levels, including engine oil, power steering fluid, engine coolant, and transmission fluid.
Check and adjust the V-belts and the serpentine belts and replace those if necessary.
