Its all in a bid to help clean up the country’s air and reduce its contribution to global emissions.

The French government is not far behind from the UK. In fact, it claims that it will be matching the UK’s plan for combustion-engine cars by 2040. The French government says that this is its effort for fighting the ‘fight against climate change.’ After 2040, carmakers will only be able to sell electric vehicles or clean vehicle-alternatives.

Norway is also hoping to take out diesel cars from its roads as soon as possible. It wants to make sure that all of the new cars are zero-emissions by 2025. Furthermore, it is not just a goal as Norway is making great progress as well. About 40% of the cars that were sold in Norway back in 2016 were either electric or hybrid.

The country has plans of ceasing the sales of all new diesel and gasoline engine motorcycles by 2035 and will be doing the same with four-wheeled vehicles by 2040. As per road traffic-technology, ‘In 2018, the government stressed that the ban would not affect existing fossil fuel-powered vehicles, with it only enforced for new cars and motorcycles. It is estimated that motorcycles and scooters comprise two-thirds of the country’s registered vehicles, which stands at more than 20 million.

Brussels in Belgium

Although Belgium, as a nation, has yet to commit to banning of diesel-engine cars, some cities in Belgium are already taking steps in this particular direction. For instance. Brussels has announced that it wishes to ban all of the diesel cars by 2030.

Japan

The last country on our list is Japan. It is working in collaboration with manufacturers such as Honda, Nissan, and Toyota to make sure that all new cars are either hybrid or electric by 2050. This working group has been named METI and is also aiming at causing a reduction in passenger vehicle greenhouse gas emission by 90% of 2010 levels this year.
